Meet The Artist :: Malia Dullanty
It has been my great privilege to interact with a variety of different artists and creators and we will be adding more artists to our collective in this coming year. So it seemed like a good idea to start with some introductions...
I am Malia Dullanty.
I create using mixed media: woodburning, ink and watercolor, web design, and honestly? Any creative outlet I can access with my abundant spare time (that's sarcasm).
I am 30 years old and have been creating since before I can remember. Being a full-time artist was never a dream of mine, because it always seemed unattainable. But life has a way of creating opportunity and we decided to latch onto this one, so here I am, making art full-time.
My preferred media is ink and paper, which is part of why I never thought to pursue art as a career. But when my husband took up general contracting and we had so much raw "extra" material around our house, the thrifty cheapskate in me decided they needed to be utilized, so I started to draw on broken drawer fronts, wood rounds, tables, etc. Mark bought me a woodburner to draw with and Tribu Design & Colectivo began.
My grandfather passed away last year and I was gifted all his art supplies, which included a handful of canvases. I wasn't sure what to do with them until one afternoon I drew something and watercolored over it. It had such a startlingly lovely aesthetic, I began to do it more and more and it is now one of my favorite things to do.
My art is inspired by nature and the fantastical, simple, complex patterns found within. I love the ability to shift from one media to the next depending on what I am most inspired by in the moment.
